Best-of series strategy
Best-of series strategy
A single match is a coin flip — the deal matters as much as the play. Best-of series smooth that out and reward consistent play, but each length has its own rhythm.
Best-of-3
Two wins takes the series. With 100-coin entry and a 200-coin payout for the winner, the expected value math says you should play this if you think you can win any individual match more often than 50% of the time — variance evens out faster than you'd think.
Tip: the first round is the most important. Win it and your opponent is now playing under pressure. Lose it and you need to win two in a row (much harder).
Best-of-5
Three wins. This is the sweet spot — long enough that the better player usually wins, short enough that a single 8-minute match doesn't turn into a 45-minute series. We recommend bo5 for any match where both players know each other's level.
Tip: if you go down 0-2, don't tilt. From 0-2 you still have a ~30% chance to come back (assuming equal skill), which is a much better shot than your gut suggests.
Best-of-7
Four wins. The proper tournament length, but it's a commitment — plan for 30-60 minutes depending on stockpile size. Pair bo7 with the Quick (10-card) stockpile setting if you want it to fit a coffee break.
Tip: in bo7, you can afford to "experiment" with a risky play in round 1 or 2 to see how your opponent reacts. Then in rounds 5-7, you've got a read on them and can exploit it.
What the host controls
The series length is set by the host in the lobby. Once the series starts, the entry fee is debited once (per player, 100 coins each) and the series locks in — there's no mid-series renegotiation.
